PROJECT
HIGHLIGHTS Operated
by Apprenticeship &
Nontraditional Employment for Women and Men (ANEW) the
Apprenticeship Opportunities Project (AOP) assists women, people of
color and those facing barriers to employment in establishing careers
in the building and construction trades. AOP
does this by working to both increase the supply of qualified, diverse
apprentices as well as ensuring a consistent demand for apprentice
labor. AOP also provides retention services to participants that help
ensure their long-term success. AOP
was created in 1994 and is funded by the Office of Port Jobs.
The goal of the project is to assist low income individuals in SUPPORTING LIVABLE WAGE JOBS AND CAREER
PROGRESSION AOP
participants are goal-oriented individuals, focused on obtaining
living wage jobs that also offer highly skilled training and benefits
as well as having an opportunity for wage and career progress.
Becoming a journey level construction worker earning
approximately $30.00 per hour with benefits is the ultimate goal. PROGRAMS SERVICES
*Support
service funds are available to low-income participants. Typical support
services available are tools required for the job, work clothes, testing
fees temporary gas assistance & Union dues. Support services help
assist the qualified client in meeting their employment goal.
